Peter
Peter was born in Liverpool where he studied flute with Judy Fenton as a winner of a City of Liverpool Scholarship, before gaining a place at the Royal Northern College of Music to study with Roger Rostron and Trevor Wye and piccolo with Pat Morris. Whilst at the RNCM he was principal flute in the college symphony and opera orchestras. On completing his postgraduate year at the National Centre for Orchestral Studies, he won the Janet Craxton Memorial Scholarship, which enabled him to study with Pat Lindon, Peter Lloyd and Martin Parry.
Peter has worked with most of the major orchestras in England and Scotland and has performed at all their major venues. He is a founder member of the Symphonia Britannica, resident orchestra at the Thaxted Festival. It was during this period that Peter, along with Mary Morley, formed Rubato, a flute and harp duo, to great critical acclaim. Alan Ridout’s Sonata for Flute and Harp is written for them. He has recorded both for radio and television and can frequently be heard playing the flute in TV series such as A Touch of Frost, House of Cards, and has recorded numerous TV and radio adverts such as Kleenex, Andrex and Pedigree Chum.
Peter has recorded with Sir George Martin and Gordon Giltrap, Dave Stuart and Hot House Flowers.
He has great experience in ‘easy listening’ repertoire and has played in many West End shows, Including Aspects of Love, Brigadoon, The Sound of Music and Pirates of Penzance. He has worked extensively with the London Concert Orchestra, London Pops Orchestra and BBC Concert Orchestra.
Peter is an experienced and committed flute teacher, teaching at Westminster School, London. Linton Village College and Kings College School Cambridge, and is visiting lecturer at Cambridge, Durham and Anglia Ruskin Universities.
